  • Summary

What was last year a place of lament will this year make a place of new life and light. We intend to either burn or electronically light the sculpture from the previous year's "the great source"-project. It will make a place of unity in diversity.

    Full description of yer concept

Last year, with the help from amazing artists, craftsmen and friends, we created The Great Source, a project dedicated to the creation of a place for grief at the Borderland. One of the contributions to the space was a 4x4x4m string statue that sat at the source. The original source of inspiration for this statue was actually my sister in law, who once told me about one of her family members making fire art, by creating metal statues, wrapping them, dozing them in paraffine, and making beautiful ephemeral fire art in the night. This year, as she and my brother and their family joins us for the first time at the borderland, we want to complete the project, by lighting up the statue, that has remained over the winter in Hedeland.

    Objective:
We intend to either burn or electronically light the sculpture this year. It will make a place of unity in diversity. What was last year a place of lament will this year make a place of new life and light. A place where we burn our past and light the future with an excitement of dance and light.

    Task:
we will wrap the statue in a way that can work both for lighting and a possible Burn if there is no fire ban this year!

Needs for joining in the project:
    - Volunteers to help wrap the statue
    - Dancers and musicians to join for an exciting evening evening (saturday) or perhaps multiple evenings?

    Materials:
    - For both burning and lighting:
    - Paper mache:
    News paper
    Glue (white school glue)
    scissors
    Toilet paper
    - Thin wire
    - Material 4feet wide by at least 100 feet. Cotten is best
    - Pliers (at least 5 - 10 pairs
    - spray paint …. 20 bottles at least
    - water

    To BURN:
    - Paraffin
    - Gasoline
    - Dancing Poi to burn

    To Light:
    - LED dancing Poi $12-$30
    - Led lights (Christmas) to wrap over paper mache for the night time

    What is this?

Hey friend! Welcome to the virtual drawing board of The Borderland. This is the place where we prototype the projects we'll realise during the week in the quarry.

      Details

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? ??? need to consult friends here

    • Will there be light? By fire or LED

    • Will anything BURN? Yes! If allowed, the statue will burn with a quite big flame, but for a very limited time, we are talking a burn time of 5-10 minutes. The safety area needs to be quite large, at least 10m diameter. Best would be if we can burn it were the Great Source were last year, an open area which would also allow for fire spinning and similar activities.

    • What is your audio footprint? We would love for dancers and fire spinners to have either live music or electronic music in the background at the time of the celebration
