  • Summary

Inspired by artworks of Olafur Eliasson (Vær i Vejret) and James Tapscotts’ Arc Zero, we will create a cooling and playful artinstallation based on water mist and light for all borderlings great and small, or, gorillas. Mesmerizing and unpredictable…

    Full description of yer concept

We will build a construction with water spray nozzles that create mist. It will have a peculiar shape, allowing people to pass through and under it from different angles. In this way the installation functions as a refreshing portal - because we know, sometimes all borderlings just need a passage into the mist.

This is NOT some sort of bathing platform, it is a real mist machine that invites for playfulness! At night the mist together with the LEDlighting will create pure magic for the eyes!

The portal is constructed in wood, both to safe costs - so we do not have to deal with expensive stainless steel - and the necessity to weld. In wood we also can construct a more safe standing and irrational shape, providing refreshing fun during the days and bizarre lighting during the nights. The shape will have RGB LED-strips attached and if we get enough funding we will create a pixel map lighting that highly increases the coolness of glowing mist!

Special mist nozzles will be installed that consume a very low water use. Also, we will make this installation by using pressure tanks (pumps) with rechargeable batteries. The installation will require a watertank (1.000 liters) that is delivered on the spot - in the budget.

If Hedeland is interested in our installation as permanent art - things could get much bigger and greater ...
We are thinking of an interactive mist installation - activated by the visitors walking by, the movement (fast, slow, low high, etc).
The LED lights could also be programmed and interact at night.
All this would be great but for realizing this, we're talking other numbers on the materials budget - so for now we have made the budget for the temporary, but non the less great version.

The installation will be stored and further developed through the next coming borderlands.

    About the crew / artist

Some of us are artists, some of us are builders - we have realized many art projects that involved design, technics, software, music and build. We are gathering our know-how to realize this project in the most safe, durable and artistic way possible.
Ohana is a camp located within Kidsville of the Borderland. We are a crew of dedicated borderland parents that will create two playgrounds; one all inclusive (+3 years) where both adults and kids together (or alone) can enjoy child friendly activities - on the kids' premises. The other playground will be an adults-only playground, with workshops and sensual treats happening at our large kids-free Tipi.

Gorillas in the Mist will be located in Camp Ohana or somewhere in the Kidsville village.

Moop plan (matter out of place)

No or minimal moop, the portal will be mooped regularly for forgotten clothes - lost and found - basket available at the installation.

    What is this?

Hey friend! Welcome to the virtual drawing board of The Borderland. This is the place where we prototype the projects we'll realise during the week in the quarry.

    • we communicate on Talk - our group is called: Camp Ohana

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? Yes, to recharge the batteries of the 8 mist-spraypumps of 12 Volt/10 AH batteri, charging happens in our camp.

    • Will there be light? Yes, with RGB LED- strips that are attached to the construction (the shaped portal)

    • Will anything BURN? no, rather the opposite, things might get WET!

    • What is your audio footprint? No, only the low sound of misting nozzles and batteries humming. plus not anything louder than usual sounds of people having fun.
