  • Summary

We will provide basic substance checking services, as well as information on safer substance use for participants during the borderland. Back again for year 2 in the sketchy trailer. Better signage! More open hours! More chemistry! Burn Safe!

    Full description of yer concept

Our dream is to provide harm reduction information and substance identification services for participants during the borderland. We will provide basic substance checking, as well as information on safer substance use. While we do not condone the use of substances at the borderland, especially illegal substances, we respect the right of borderlings to perform radical self expression, and to do what they want with their bodies. We hope to provide useful information to make for a safer burn. This project is inspired by the Trans European Drug information project, and many other checking services across the EU, such as Energy Control in Barcelona and the Loop in the UK, and is standard practice in many other european countries, but such services are absent in scandinavia.

This year, we will have more and better substance checking methods, do a better job of communicating to borderlings what we are doing and where to find our services (without putting a giant sign out front saying what we are doing, for obvious reasons), more open hours, and if possible will set up an encrypted messaging service so we can communicate to people when their results are ready. we will also up our game with decorations, and make sure the camper looks awesome at night.

At the borderland we will have a tent where people can come and get information on the safer use of substances, as well as getting their substances checked using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) methods coupled with colorometirc assays. These tests are aimed at identifying primary components and possible harmful adulterants, but due to our simple equipment cannot completely identify the total composition or quantify the purity of all the elements. The results are thus a guide and not a 100% certain advice, the responsibility still relies with each individual borderling, but we hope to create a better informed base for people to make decisions. If significantly adulterated or dangerous substances are identified, we will alert the borderland community through posting signs around the borderland and at info-points. We will also provide flyers giving information about different common substances, towards the goal of harm reduction. We will of course shine up our tent to make it look awesome in the quarry. We will have the service open for a few hours each day of the borderland, please write to us if you want to get involved!

Moop plan (matter out of place)

we will do our upmost to take care of regular MOOP, and we will have special disposal setups for any hazardous materials. however, this should be less then 500ml, so fairly minimal. we will keep it clean!

    What is this?

Hey friend! Welcome to the virtual drawing board of The Borderland. This is the place where we prototype the projects we'll realise during the week in the quarry.

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? Yes, enough for a mini fridge, two cooler boxes, and some lights and other small electrical equipment. 6 fans (ventilation is important!)

    • Will there be light? The Deco team will make it look awesome at night, probably some LED strips or something.

    • Will anything BURN? We plan to not have fires, nothing will burn in our project, and we hope to keep it that way. good laboratory safety, and a fire extinguisher!

    • What is your audio footprint? If the van is a rockin', don't come a knockin'
