Research Camp (Psyence)

  • Summary

Yes, you've heard correctly! Borderland is going to have, amongst all other wonders, its own research camp, run by real neuropsyentists! Drop in to be challenged on various real cognitive tasks turned fun interactive brain games.

    Full description of yer concept

Did you ever feel like all these scientists out there just "don't get it"?
Did you ever feel like you have a lot to say, and the world could benefit from it if only you would be heard?
Did you ever feel like there is no bridge between you and science, or between science and you?

We did feel like that, and our dream is to sort out these issues by leaving our research caves in the cities and building a research camp at Borderland.
Our dream is to do science in a real, natural, or even mystical environment that doesn't feel impersonal.

We are all neuroscientists whose expertise is in psychedelics research.
Our primary interest is understanding cognition under the influence of psychedelic drugs - how is this different to everyday consciousness? does it improve certain abilities and diminish others? what about higher levels of consciousness? is there a universal mystic experience, or a heterotopia of individual experiences? what is it, in essence, that is special about the psychedelic state?

What types of games you could expect: fun existential quizzes, memory games, planning and reasoning games, guessing games, pattern recognition etc.
We might even bring over a recent innovation in brain-computer interfaces, a helmet designed to induce a mystical experience even in the absence of psychedelics!

    Important information:
We do have ethical&legal approval to carry out these observations.
People who wish to participate must give sober informed consent prior to their involvement.
Everything will be anonymised and in conformity with GDPR.

Adulterated psychedelic drugs represent a serious risk to health, and also do contaminate data, so the camp will also provide a limited drug testing service.

    About the crew / artist

We are a group of neuroscientists with expertise in researching the therapeutic potential of psychedelic drugs (memory modulation, microdosing, ceremonial settings, mystic experience) at Imperial College London and University of Amsterdam.

Moop plan (matter out of place)

Daily clean-up of space around the camp. We will pack everything in vans we came with, return the rented items and donate the rest to psychedelics research labs in London and Amsterdam.

Description Min amount (DKK) Max amount (DKK)
Stationery (lab agendas, markers, papers, etc) 600
    Secondhand arm chair 350
Cognitive games materials (some to be 3D printed) 2300
    Geodesic dome (PVC) 1500
    Decorations 500
    Renting tents for experiments 2500
Miscellaneous (gloves, stirring sticks, facemasks etc) 500
    Sharps disposal bin 200
    Drug testing reagents 1600
    Participant rewards (edibles) 400
    Transport 3000
    Lab coats 1500
How can other Borderlings co-create with you?

By participating in our games and creating scientific knowledge about how the human brain works. We will also provide space and material for borderlings to let imaginations run free and to co-create little experiments with us which tackle specific questions in psychedelics research.

    What is this?

Hey friend! Welcome to the virtual drawing board of The Borderland. This is the place where we prototype the projects we'll realise during the week in the quarry.

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? Enough to power lightbulbs and charge laptops

    • Will there be light? Yes, lightbulbs.

    • Will anything BURN? No fire for us

    • What is your audio footprint? Generally quiet, but if we make some groundbreaking scientific discovery we'll shout "WOHOOOOO" or "eureka!"

    • Next random dream
