The Sorcerers

  • Summary

On the ground in a festival, crying my heart out for my partner, I discovered the source. It seemed like I was seated next to a great source of grief, and at the end of it, I found understanding & finally, freedom. This is a space dedicated to it, for You

    Full description of yer concept

The Great Source is dedicated to each and everyone's inner source of grief, understanding & finally, freedom. When you need it, you are invited to hold this space together with others, making room for your own, and others', grief.

    The construction process:
In this project, the process is more important than the product, and the creators of this project believes that art is more useful for its force than its form. Simply put, it's not what you do, it is how. We want to create a sacred space for everyone, and therefore, we simply need your input. Therefore, the description below has to be read as a suggestion. Have you ever been at your own inner great source of sorrow? What would a space dedicated to this look like for you? If you read this, and feel like you want to participate in creating this space, please join our group!

    The layout:
The dedicated area is circular, 30m in diameter, and delimitated with a perimeter of 15 one meter high wooden tripods, held together by strips of fabric. From each tripod hangs small battery driven lights, giving the eye a visual perimeter also at night. At one end of the perimeter stands an arched, illuminated, wooden doorway. At the centre of the circle is the Great Source, a round container of water, illuminated at night and surrounded by flowers. Spread around the source are two low wooden platforms covered with carpets, out of which one of them is semi-covered by a roof. Over the other platform, this gaslight: . Off center besides the platforms, is a 4 meter high sculpture in soldered metal, of a grieving being seated on the ground.

    The covered area:
Under the covered area, visitors can enjoy the place out of the sunlight, and to some degree safe from rain. Maybe a pot of tea can be found here, and a welcoming host.

    The night time ambience:
As the visitor walks through the doorway he/she enters into another world, noticeable by the smell of jasmin around the door and the soundscape. The soundscape alternates between soft, sad, and non-intrusive music, and simple heartbeats.

    The Grieving Being:
The being is soldered in Denmark out of sheet metal, drawing inspiration from & . Two light sources are connected to its head and heart, linking the music and the head, and the pulsing heart beat sound to the pulsing light inside its heart. The spine is a Ruben's tube, ( ) and is also linked to the sound output. In this way, the being visualises the musical ambience.

    The program:
During daytime, workshops will be held here in meditation and other practices linked with grieving, and overcoming sorrow.

    What is this?

Hey friend! Welcome to the virtual drawing board of The Borderland. This is the place where we prototype the projects we'll realise during the week in the quarry.

    Dream crew

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? 4kW. As we need to do (light) soldering at the spot, it would be preferable to have two different outputs at our location to avoid short-circuits .

    • Will there be light? By electrical lights in the perimiter, the source, and the man, and by gas light in the floating lantern, and in the spine of the being.

    • Will anything BURN? Electrical hazard, meaning badly setup electrical solutions for sound / light, with regard to rain etc. Explosion hazard with regard to gas tanks used to power the ruben's tube and the gas light, and lastly psychological wellbeing of individuals visiting the installation. Precautions Electricity: Collaborations with professionals, and use of rainproof cables etc. Explosion: Severe testing before use, only used with personel on site. Wellbeing: Hosts on the space

    • What is your audio footprint? Our audio footprint will be continuous throughout the night, but very soft. We indent to create a soundscape for the area, not beyond.
