  • Summary

Avatar-like mushrooms that glow in the dark, outdoors in the quarry.

    Full description of yer concept

Last year we discovered a species of LED bamboo in the Borderland area, big outdoor bamboo staffs waving in the wind and lighting up the dark of the quarry with their calm animated light. This year our botanists have discovered a new rare species of LED mushrooms!

We found them in a special place, but we have reasons to suspect that they may be found growing in the bushes and grasslands of the quarry too! Our botanists have learnt that the mushrooms are all connected to each other through an underground mycelium root system.

The mycelium appears to span a minimum of a kilometer, but probably much more, and our botanists believe the mushrooms are even connected to the ecosystems of the whole world, somehow communicating with..... well, maybe everything! This root system is much like a nervous system, allowing the mushrooms to have agency and actions, and not be simply a brainless source of light.

    What is this?

Hey friend! Welcome to the virtual drawing board of The Borderland. This is the place where we prototype the projects we'll realise during the week in the quarry.

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? Nope. The mushrooms appear to pull energy from the aether, or perhaps from the zero point energy field, our biologists aren't yet sure exactly how it works.

    • Will there be light? It seems these mushrooms start to glow as the sun sets, and then carry on throughout the whole night. They seem to be sensitive to other conscious beings approaching them, but we aren't exactly sure how they're doing it or why they evolved this behaviour...

    • What is your audio footprint? Every kind of mushroom we've seen before have been silent, why should this one be any different?
