The Sounds of Borderland

Jesper Lindmarker

Summary

Speakers hidden all over the quarry to give you an unexpected sound experience where you wouldn't expect it.

Full description of concept

Imagine walking along one of the quarry roads leaving a rabbit rave when you hear the soft voice of a wise woman reading fairy tales. Or when taking a piss among the trees to a sound interpretation of the Cosmic Background Radiation. Or maybe when you're heading for a swim and end up being lured in by a lecture on quantum thinking.

We will build sound installations in the unexpected places to enhance the serendipity of Borderland.

The idea is speakers and sound sources camouflaged so that they are either not seen at all or into some artsy stuff if that feels right. Sound can be curated, crowd sourced as well as recorded during the burn.

The extended idea is that some speakers are connected to distant microphones that take up sound from another place of the quarry.

Sounds fun?

Team and plan

I have about 5 stations already, the rest we will crowd-source and those who contribute will be naturally involved. I will also involve some sound artists and it will be possible to record and update the sounds during the week.

Moop plan (matter out of place)

Should be minimal Moop. We'll be responsible.

How can other borderlings cocreate with you?

Sound might only be one part of the creation. If you want to create something around or next to a sound piece that is welcome.
Otherwise, if you want to contribute with sounds that's great, equipment is great, any other help is also great. Just give me a shout and there will be stuff to do :)

What is this?

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.

    Details

  • Do you need electricity from the grid? Yes, but nothing demanding. Enough to power the portable speakers, usb chargers (for the sound sources) and maybe some light.

  • Will there be light? Maybe some of them. In that case mostly solar power.

  • Will anything burn? No

  • What is your audio footprint? Sound levels that are heard in a radius of about 20m.

  • Forces of nature Rain is an issue. Plastic bags or equivalent should do it.
