Shitopia - Magnificent toilet experiences!

Lovisa Karlsson

Shitopia is the concept of making our toilet visits into magnificent, interesting, bizarre and fun experiences! Do YOU have experience in using a toilet and a slightly twisted mind? Join us today!

Full description of concept

Shitopia aims towards having the 28 toilets 'adopted' by different participants and transformed into EXPERIENCES. Our goal is to have people looking forward to the fresh, weird and uplifting toilet breaks! We also believe that giving the toilets some extra love will make everyone take care of them more during the festival.

How do we do this? It can be by claiming a porta pottie and giving it a theme (eg. transforming it into a fairytale forest and install some magical music), it could be putting out red carpets for the people queuing, to make signs, a diaper station, hosting poop workshops, put up information about the history of toilets or bring lights to help lonesome wanderers with filled batters find their way in the dark...

Decorating a booth is (can be..) a defined project to take on and therefore an easy projekt for first timers that are unsure of what to do at the festival. You think this sounds like a greta idea? Then we're a perfect match. Help us make it happen!

Team and plan

We have a group on Facebook:

We will soon start a slack channel as well! If you want to be notified about meet ups and general info in a different way, please contact us!

Moop plan (matter out of place)

We'll try and keep the decorations as moop-free as possible. Every booth will be responsible for their own moop/trash but we'll make sure to have collective bags to sort the trash afterwards.

How can other borderlings cocreate with you?

Come up with ideas for different booths and make them happen! Join the group, share your idea or ask if someone needs help. At the festival: look after the porta potties when you use them!

What is this?

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.

  • Do you need electricity from the grid? Yes, probably light and music devices for 28 toilets. Eg 50-200 W/booth + 200W Shitopia sign.

  • Will there be light? YES! We have the Shitopia sign, and will light up the booths from the outside (and inside).

  • Will anything burn? Not planned.

  • What is your audio footprint? Low music in the different booths but perhaps also music outside when standing in line.

  • Forces of nature The booths are windproof but we might need to secure eg. the Shitopia sign and stuff placed outside. These things are not decided yet - but we'll keep Mother Nature in mind.
