A dream of sharing the passion for the magic of photography with as many Borderlings as possible. By guiding the transformation of matchboxes into film cameras, the vision is to generate images with full co-creation and Borderland itself in their DNA.
The construction will be a dive into focus, applying great accuracy in cutting and poking tiny holes in matchboxes before taping them into their final form (Hugging, drinking, talking, singing and all that jazz is implicit). Besides creating fully functioning film camera we will expose ourselves to the true magic of light.
Once created, I imagine all cameras merging into the life cycles of the festival like any other Borderling. You might take a handful of pictures before letting the little box continue its journey with someone whom you feel called to share this little wonder with. Once the films are at their end they will be collected at a drop-off point (e.g. the post office), developed and shared post Borderland.
The cameras and their images will be an expression of the souls and DNA of Borderland. An unfolding of the creative minds that have touched them - but no one will have any idea how their insides turn out. Time to release the controlling shadows of the digital world and unleash imagination and curiosity. That is play!
“I’ve experienced time take on new appearances with these cameras - in non-entheogenic states.” - me
I am Nikolaj Svennevig, photographer and visual explore. The pinhole cameras have been calling me for a while, and asked that I share their wonderful simplicity and playfulness with you all. For greater understanding of the magic that our vibrational state holds.
If you have any leftover films lying around bring them. Preferable colour film, because colours! The grant will also cover film and the development phase, but the more film the merrier.
