Sparking conversations

Einar Boson

Summary

A few barrels of fire to drive the cold away at night and to spark interesting conversations with old and new friends.

Full description of concept

Wandering through the chilly night you see some light in the distance and hear the soft sound of conversation. Coming closer you find a group of people chatting away around an inviting barrel of fire. Everyone is too caught up in conversation to notice that the fire is fading. You see a pile of firewood and you feed a few logs to the fire. People look up, smile and thank you. You take the opportunity to join the conversation and get some warmth back in your hands.

The concept here is simple. I buy a few metal barrels and cut them and pierce them to make safe fireplaces that wont damage the land. Then I buy a few cubic metres of firewood and some tarp to cover it. I rent a trailer to bring it on site, and then again to remove the barrels unless we can store them for next year.
Additionally I need to procure some buckets to have water available for safety. Should the wind pick up we need to kill the fires.

Team and plan

Einar, Caroline Bergmann, Andreas Engholm and a few more I hope.

Moop plan (matter out of place)

Ashes. Either collect and bring with us or leave somewhere among the bushes if that's allowed.
The barrels will be removed unless we can store them for next year.

How can other borderlings cocreate with you?

Help us find good placements! Help us figure out fire safety and regulations!

What is this?

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.

    Details

  • Do you need electricity from the grid? No

  • Will there be light? Yes, from the fires.

  • Will anything burn? Yes, the wood will burn. They will be placed at a good distance from anything flammable and have helkpful instruction on how to not make them dangerous. I'll talk to the clown police and ask them to check on the barrels regularly.

  • What is your audio footprint? Conversations and fire noises.

  • Forces of nature If it rains, the fire will die. We'll make some rain protection for the fire wood. If the wind picks up I'll make sure we are a few people who will run around and put the fires out.
