  • Summary

Picture yourself in a boat on a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies… Now imagine actually walking through the iconic Beatles song. At this art experience, you do just that! And here you don’t need LSD to join Lucy in the sky with her diamonds!

    Full description of the concept

I was visiting my parents, and late one evening, we were singing along to Beatles songs, and one of my all-time favourites starts to play. And for once I really listen to the words of one of the trippiest Beatles-songs ever. ‘Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds’ paints a picture of one hell of an acid trip. Having never done LSD myself, my mind interpreted the visuals quite literal. And I kept thinking, this would be an amazing thing to experience. Maybe as a walk, or a labyrinth! I googled videos, but none were ever really made, so I couldn’t help thinking…. I could do this!

Yes, I am talking about making everything from the song, quite literally. And I need your help, to make this grand escape possible. It’s a crazy task, where building big cellophane flowers, and making kaleidoscope spectacles will take time, love and volunteers with a great imagination!

Take a look at the lyrics of the song below. I will try to build a version of EVERYTHING mentioned in the song, and turn it into a walk or a maze where you can get lost. Maybe with actors/volunteers acting out some parts with you. A true lucid experience!

“Lucy in the sky with diamonds”
    By The Beatles. (slightly edited)

Picture yourself in a boat on a river
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly
    A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green
    Towering over your head
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes
    And she's gone
Lucy in the sky with diamonds

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmallow pies
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers
    That grow so incredibly high
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore
    Waiting to take you away
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds
    And you're gone
Lucy in the sky with diamonds

Picture yourself on a train in a station
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes
Lucy in the sky with diamonds

    - My main motivation to do this is that it could be really, really fun! Help me set it up, I’ll work on it from Saturday to Tuesday – and maybe even one day before The Borderland, in Copenhagen where you can help co-create!

I would need to create costumes for some of the visuals to work. I would need to bake a bunch of marshmallow pies. If I get some LED uplights, then that is quite valuable. I'd like money for gas, but we do have a van.

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? How much in Watts? Some. An outlet. I would like to light it up at night.

    • Will there be light? Yes! Sting lights and maybe spotlights if possible

    • Safety implications It should be a limited amount of people who enter the experience at a time. I would love to make a stop light, meaning you are only allowed to enter every 5 minutes.

    • What is your audio footprint? I would love to do a 'silent-disco-headphones' kinda thing, but no actual audio footprint. I would not force the same song on repeat on anyone!
