At Temple of Anubis, we will mummify you in plaster in a peaceful, sensual environment. We will write your obituary and place it on your own gravestone by your cast as a tribute to and expression of your body, mind and spirit.
Our goal is to make a calm and sensual environment, where you feel the sensual experience of being cast in plaster from head to toe. It will be a spiritual ritual. We begin with a drink, symbolising the transformation of the proces. A poison for the body to cross over. Next you will lie down on a comfortable bed, with ricebag to support your position. We will make the plasterlinned from scratch, out of fabric, water and plaster, and place on your body in three layers. This will take a couple of hours. In the meantime, while you still are able to talk, we get to know your story. Then we write the tale of who you were and make an obituary to place on your own gravestone next to your cast.
We will make a Valley of Khat (Egyptian for body) for people to visit, read about their stories and pay tribute to them, with flowers or whatever they feel like, showing their love and reflection of these people. It is a performance that is worth experiencing both as the one being cast but also for those visiting the Valley of Khat.
We view this death as a beautiful thing. This is not a morbid, dark game. We want to celebrate who you are, the uniquenss of your being. It is a surreal experience to be able to see your own body in front of you, not in a mirror but a real touchable object. Maybe you want to use this as a new startingpoint in your life, to cleanse yourself of old beliefs. It is total open for how to use the experience and we will make sure people are treated with love and respect.
Our art performance needs a big tent for the ritual to take place, proper covering of the ground, 2 workstations, materials for the plastering and making of the gravestones. Also some materials for the aesthetics of the Temple, signs etc.
We are about 4-5 people working on this project. We have experience with plastering and want to try to make it an experience in itself and a performance.
If people want to help make the plaster with us, they are very welcome. As long as they respect the calm process and will be guided by us, we very much want people to join.
The biggest expense we have, besides all the materials, is the tent. We cant really make it ourselves as it needs to be sturdy and hold out rain. We want to be able to do this, even though it rains. We have asked the community and people we know, and we maybe able to rent a good tent for a good price but we are unsure yet of the best solution.
