A Viking burial ship filled by Borderlanders with messages, memories, hopes and secrets to be burnt on the water at sunset. Combining the Nordic burial tradition of the Vikings with the modern Burner ritual of The Temple.
The Viking ship will be an opportunity to come together to remember friends and loved ones we have lost. Over the week Borderlanders are invited to visit the Viking ship at the Port and add messages, memories, thoughts, gifts and to help build and decorate it before its last voyage. It might be big, it might be small but it will be beautiful. At the end of the week the ship will be carried in a procession down to the water and burnt at sunset.
It's my 4th Borderland. Last year I co-created a dawn ritual on the cliff to remember Mark Resnick. I made a small model viking ship which we burnt.
It's currently me and fellow Porters so we need co-creators! We are looking to find a small boat as the template to which we can add the shape of a viking ship - tall bow and stern, shields, oars and a square sail. For practicality and to minimise damage to the environment the ship can be a scaled down size and does not have to be destroyed - the fire can be contained inside in a fire-pit or barrel if needed. Once the (paper) messages and memories have burnt the ritual can end and the ship be pulled back to land.
A MOOP team will be ready to collect any debris that has broken away. We plan for the fire to be contained within the ship and the main hull to be pulled back to shore intact.

Yes! We need people to help build and decorate it. Boat-minded nauti-cal people especially!
Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.
