  • Summary

Same as last year but but bigger, better and most importantly HIGHER. We want to lift you up to explore the celestial heights^

    Full description of concept

Last year the Celestial Grinders camp built an impromptu stage / castle / chill out-area, that was less a planned project and more a result of what we happened to bring (mainly a large amount of scaffolding, music gear and wood). The result was great, there was a platform on the first floor with some views, a stage where we had live music one night (Lisa's take on Wandering Star 😻), someone made projection mapping, Laza invented a flag dance on the platform, and so on. We want to do this again, but bigger, better and more planned. We will put a big part of our camp fees towards this, but since we are a comparatively small camp we are also asking for art grants to be able to make this dream bigger and more amazing so it can accommodate more people.

The scaffolding is a brilliant invention, it basically consist of 3x3x3m cubes that you can stack and attach to each other. Each cube will constitute one room or floor. We will build and fill some of these rooms/floors, and leave some to be used by others. All cubes will be open for everyone, even if this is a Celestial project it is not our kitchen/camping structure. We are early on in the planning stage - and everyone is welcome to come with ideas. Some ideas for rooms/floors so far are; a platform on the 2nd floor - we will need to make sure this is safe and technically feasible, heavy duty climbing nets, a stage (of course), a hidden room (with a surprise for you all, can we say it is jingley...), projection mappings, etc etc. We want this to be a three-dimensional maze, a little castle to hide from eventual rain, with floor-less rooms with massive hammocks, secret ladders to spectacular views, hidden tarot card reading cabinets, maybe even a room from the cabin you went to with your family during your early childhood years..., all wrapped in loads of that awesome translucent fabrics - a Christo mansion in the middle of the playa. 🎡🏰🎪

    About the group/Artist

Celestial Grinders is a camp at the Borderland.

    Team and plan

Jakob is construction lead. Celestial Grinders team will build. Hard hats will be worn this time.

Moop plan (matter out of place)

There will be bins on/in each floor / room.

    Budget overview

Wood 7000 (if we are to build several floor we will need to use high grade wood for joists so the price goes up substantially)
    Construction material (screws etc) 4000
    Heavy duty climbing nets 5000
    Fabrics 2000
    Rope 2000

We will build with what we get, the more we get the bigger the structure.

How can other borderlings cocreate with you?

The Celestial Grinders Camp is open for a bunch of dedicated and convivial borderlings to join us this year. We also invite any group who have a great idea for one of the rooms/floors to contribute. Since the structure is literally many-faceted we also invite any projection-mappers to blast whatever photons they want on our fabrics. For our one live night we are also looking for dedicated music artists.

    What is this?

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.

      Details

    • Do you need electricity from the grid? Yes

    • Will there be light? Yes, we will hopefully do some projection mapping!

    • Will anything burn? No - we aim to bring this back throughout the years. There will be one fire extinguisher per room / floor.

    • What is your audio footprint? We will have one live night where we play loud live music between 7 and 10. The other nights we will mainly play classical music (mainly late 1870's).

    • Forces of nature We will take substantial measures to reduce wind-loads on the structure. The scaffolding is construction grade. We know what we are doing.
