On the border between wet and dry there stands a tall contraption ready to throw away your sorrow, anger and grief.
Load it up with a symbolic stone on which you have written your angst and watch it as it flies out into the wast ocean.
We build a trebuchet of wood and load it with stone for ballast.
The trebuchet should be located on the beach with hillside directly behind it. The water in front of it and to 30 degrees from centerline should not be within the area used for swimming. The hillside should be so steep as to stop any early release of the projectile from travelling into the quarry.
The construction should have an easy way of being disassembled/locked so that it can only be operated with crew present.
Aiming for at least 5m throwing arm to make projectiles in the size of tennis balls fly really well.
The rope should be of natural fibers such as hemp or jute to minimize fire hazard and to minimize moop.
Any flaming projectile should be made out of natural products such as round wickerbasket with straw and line-seed oil.
Monday - purchase of material from local hardware store
Tuesday - Assembly of trebuchet
Tuesday evening - Cermony with fire
Wednesday to Friday - Operations
Saturday - Disassembly and burn
Later - Metallic parts to recycling center
Wood will burn, metallic parts will be gathered when the trebuchet is disassembled.
May produce saw dust during construction, will have a special workstation for sawing to keep it contained
Help plan, extend the dream. Extrapolate it. Help us carry stuff. Build and paint.
Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.
