We want to create an interactive dance floor that will be open to all sorts of initiatives of bodies on it. The objective aim is that it will be open 24/7 throughout the whole festival. It will provide generation of ranges of sounds and lights.
The main structure is an interactive dance floor featuring a 5-6 m tall aerial rig for aerial acrobatics with safety matrasses under it.
We want to create a space that will be open to all sorts of initiatives of bodies on it. The objective aim is that it will be open 24/7 throughout the whole festival. It will provide generation of ranges of sounds and lights, that are generated through the movement of bodies on the floor. We want to open up the place also for any sort of activity from yoga to capoeira, from contact-improvisations to circus and just silly movement experiments.
The sounds will be generated from analog and digital electronic instruments, drum machines and synths, but they will be triggered by digital computation technologies, from computer. The lights will both be ranges of LED lights, cause they are cheap, easy and fun. Also flames are going to be generated by a flame-thrower machine which will also be controlled by computer - with same algorithms that also control the sounds and lights. It’s crucial part of our artwork that the controlling software is going to be affected, although partially, by the movements of bodies on floor. There is to say that the dance and movements will generate the sound, which then will generate forms of dances and movements.
Another set of artwork we want to create within the same composition is trees made of steel. We will get large pipes from industrial waste, and will cut them through with gas-cutter. The trees will be surrounding the area of the dance-floor and will service the sensors and lights that will be placed in the area, above and around the dance-floor.
Carmen Csilla Medina: dancer & amateur circus artist (aerial silks)
Parts we need:
in different sizes, one size.
Length: As long as possible / or 5-6m per pipe (tree).
Strength: between 5-15mm. (the aerial rig should be able to hold around 1000 kg of weigth)
Rusted OK (even better indeed :) for decoration and around 5 non-rusted steel pipes for aerial rig)
Gas for the gas-cutter (we have the cutter)
Oxygen & Acetylene
Lights & cables & servo-motor,
DMX Receiver Dimmer with minimum 4 channels
Soft, straight floor where people can take off shoes and be comfortable. Material and how we get that we don’t know yet.
We'll all either burn them or bring them back to town with our trucks. The aerial rig is meant to be reused on future burns.
we will have a lot, but mainly gas tank, pipes and all. It'd be great if we can get support for some of our equipment from our friends in Copenhagen. Because they are heavy industrial stuff and so very difficult and expensive to bring from Stockholm.
We will try to negotiate with local schools to get hold of some matrasses, otherwise they need to be bought or transported from Copenhagen or Sweden.
We will need a lot of practical help, but also people who can come and do their own things: like yoga, contact-impro, (aerial) acrobatics or any different dance, or a still-dance or a meditation.

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.
