Painted By The Borderland

Christophe Bram

Summary

You are invited to create a big drawing and come to Borderland with it. This drawing will be painted on by participants during the Borderland week, using UV paint and brushes, at our camp. At the end of the event, the drawing (now painted) is yours again.

# BEFORE THE EVENT: CREATING THE CANVAS
#######################################

All Borderland participants are invited to create an outlined canvas - it's a sort of drawing.

To create it, follow these instructions:
1. Find a bed sheet at least 1.5x1.5m
2. Paint a 1.5x1.5m square of the sheet with a (preferably dark-coloured) coating. Wall paint applied with a roller works just fine. It dries up in 30min.
3. Using a pen of a contrasting colour, draw some outlines for the painting. Please refrain from being too precise, as it's a good idea to leave some space for the Borderland painters to imagine and improvise.

The drawing can be a complete creation of yours, or can be the outlines of an existing image that you like.

Each canvas can be painted on both sides, so don't hesitate to come with a double-sided canvas!

Painters may be sitting all around the drawing, so it's better if the drawing is easy to paint on from all angles.

# DURING THE EVENT: PAINT AWAY!
###############################

Every evening, two canvases are chosen, which will be painted by the Borderland participants inside the camp's tent.

############################################
# AFTER THE EVENT: THE CANVAS IS YOURS AGAIN
############################################

At the end of the Borderland week, the painted drawing is yours again, and you can do pretty much anything you like with it, except using it for profit.

# THE CAMP
##########

The painting sessions will be inside an octogonal party tent that we already have (see picture).

# DISPLAYING THE FINISHED PAINTINGS

We haven't decided yet which way we'll exhibit the finished paintings. Some ideas:
- We hang them on each side of the tent. The tent becomes a gallery!
- They are exhibited at various fitting locations on the festival site.

Do you have another suggestion? We want to hear from you!

# ATMOSPHERE

To set a calm & relaxing atmosphere, we would have a good quality (but not necessarily loud) sound system inside the pavilion tent.

Team and plan

The project is done by the Nomadic Hells Angels camp.

Moop plan (matter out of place)

Everything goes back to Stockholm. It's not really a MOOP-sensitive project.

How can other borderlings cocreate with you?

The most awesome way to co-create on this project, is to draw a canvas (see procedure in the Google doc) and to come with it to The Borderland.

What is this?

Congratulations! You've stumbled upon something special. Borderland is a participatory festival that takes place in Boesdal, Denmark. It's a fully participatory event where everything is created by the participants themselves, with out any spectators.
